		PROBLEM: Bulky, cumbersome technical manuals thwarted the ability to find and use technical information within cramped ship quarters. In addition to usability problems, the volume and weight of technical manuals negatively impacted ship space and speed. Printing, updating, and distributing paper technical manuals imposed a financial burden unacceptable as budgets dwindled.
		SOLUTION: Antech designed a smart database of text and graphics for the Radio Communications System (RCS) of AEGIS-class ships. We presented the data in a pageless, frame-oriented, interactive format from a CD-ROM. Our product streamlined the access to information, provided multiple paths to related information, and facilitated training. The resulting AEGIS RCS IETM provided the equivalent of a well-equipped, current, technical library with advantages of lower distribution costs, miniscule weight and space requirements, and improved usability. Since garnering the Windows World Open award for outstanding government software, Antech’s product has been customized for distribution to all AEGIS cruisers and destroyers.
